IPL Winners List 2008-2022: Awards Won By Players And Teams

The Indian Premier League, also called the IPL is a Twenty20 national cricket tournament that is organized by the IPL Governing Council and is managed by the control of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The IPL is comprised of eight teams with names based upon 8 different Indian cities. BCCI established the tournament in 2007. It is held every year from March through May.

The Mumbai Indians have won five IPL tournaments. They are followed by Chennai Super Kings who has been awarded four IPL titles.

IPL Winners Details

2008 - Rajasthan Royals

Led by Shane Warne, they won the inaugural season of the IPL against CSK featuring experienced players such as Shane Watson, Graeme Smith, Yusuf Pathan, and Sohail Tanvir. During the final game against CSK, Yusuf Pathan contributed in both bowling and batting and played the biggest match of his life. He took three important wickets at the run rate being less than bowling and quickly scored 56 runs from 39.

2009 - Deccan Chargers

Adam Gilchrist was the team's leader. Pragyan Ojha was a crucial player for the team with 18 wickets taken using his left-arm spin bowling. Adam Gilchrist was able to score 495 runs over 16 matches, and was second in the top ten run scorers in 2009 IPL following Mathew Hayden.

2010 - Chennai Super Kings

2011 - Chennai Super Kings

CSK was the first IPL team to defeat RCB in back-to-back finals. Mr Cricket and Michael Hussey played significant innings during the IPL 2011 tournament. Murali Vijay's and Hussey's first partnership of 159-runs against RCB was the main reason for CSK to take the trophy.

2012 - Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR defeated the champions of the past Chennai Super Kings in the final. Bisla assumed the responsibility of chasing the match and played the game with aplomb, scoring 89 runs from 48 balls. Even Suresh Raina's 73 runs out of 38 didn’t hinder Kolkata Knight Riders winning.

2013 - Mumbai Indians

It was led by Rohit Sharma, with players like Lasith Malinga Kieron Pollard, and Mitchell Johnson, MI defeated CSK in the finals. The team played well through the IPL tournament. The presence from Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, and Mitchell Johnson remained constant throughout the match.

2014 - Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR was the second team to take home the IPL trophy twice. Manish Pandey, who allowed KKR chase overall 199 runs, was the hero in the 2014 IPL final. From KKR, Robin Uthappa won the orange cap after he scored 660 runs in 16 innings whereas Pandey achieved 94 from 50.

2015 - Mumbai Indians

Won the finals with great players such as Ambati Rayadu Rohit Sharma, Lasith Malinga, Simmons, and Kieron Pollard. After CSK won, Mumbai Indians became the third team to win IPL Season at least twice. The trophy was awarded thanks to the unity among the team members. Lasith Malinga, bowler for the team took 24 wickets in the match that was dominated by Slinga Malinga. Two extra wickets from Lasith Malinga were picked up by Dwayne Bravo.

2016 - Sunrisers Hyderabad

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the game by 8 runs. As captain, David Warner managed the team with skill. The team of Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers is the reason why IPL 2016 so memorable. Virat was part of 16 innings and scored 7 half-centuries and 4 centuries. He also became the winner of the orange cap for the season.

2017 - Mumbai Indians

MI broke the record of being the first team to win more than twice. In 2013 and later in 2015, the team won. With just one run the Rising Pune Supergiants won the final. The overall performance of Rohit Sharma was outstanding as captain of the Mumbai Indians.

2018 - Chennai Super Kings

CSK was second to win more than two trophies along with veterans such as Shane Watson, Shane Rayadu and Dhoni. Dhoni played amazingly well and delivered the best finishes in the matches. Their bowling teamthat comprised Dwanye Bravo and MS Dhoni was the main reason behind their success.

2019 - Mumbai Indians

MI once again faced Chennai Super Kings in the finals. Mumbai Indians were crowned the champions after the final game. The last bowl was the crucial element in the final result. In this way, MI became the most successful team in IPL history following the 4th IPL title.

2020 - Mumbai Indians

IPL 2020 saw Mumbai Indians win the IPL title for the second consecutive year and for the fifth time. The match was between Mi and Delhi Capitals. MI won the IPL trophy with five wickets. Mumbai Indians also won Paytm Fairplay Award during the year in question.

2021 - Chennai Super Kings

CSK defeated KKR on 15th October 2021 with 27 runs. The finale was conducted in Dubai and CSK scored 192 runs in only 3 wickets and defeated KKR by 27 runs. After their win in 2021, CSK climbed to 4th spot in IPL. Harshal Patel, RCB, became the purple cap holder. Ruturaj Gaikwad, IPL's most junior player, received the IPL orange cups award.

2022 - Gujarat Titans

The final game of IPL 2022 was played between Gujarat Titans (qualifier 1) and Rajasthan Royals (2qualifier 2) on 29 May 2022. GT won the tournament by 7 wickets . Jos Buttler scored 863 runs across 17 matches including 4 hundred and four fiveties, which is the maximum. For the 2022 IPL competition, Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants, Gujarat Titans and Royal challengers Bangalore were all in the mix. Gujarat Titans (GT), became the first team to climb to the top by scoring 20 points. The team won 10 games out of 14 that they played.
